Ox Head OX 235 E-602 Forestry hatchet

I was impressed with the quality of this hatchet. The handle feels good in the hand and is well balanced. Also the blade arrives razor sharp.

Ok to Average Quality

Sounds good, made in Germany and all that, but quality was just average at best. Yellow paint stinks and is unnecessary (never found on high quality axes such as Grandfors Bruk), handle fitting just OK. For about the same money, consider Snow & Nealley, made in the U.S. If you have the extra dough, the Swedish brands have the right vibe and are generally good quality.

Ox Head

Excellent quality tool. I bought it for camping to chop pieces of kindling for fires. Nice weight and good thick handle. My only gripe is with the leather sheath, it's absolute garbage and I doubt it's real leather at that. Not to mention it's velcro and slides off the head without undoing the velcro. I didn't buy it for the sheath but still would be nice to include a durable on like Hultafors.

Excellent hatchet

Excellent hatchet. Perfect for camping or quick work in the yard. Stays sharp. I bought another one to keep in the car. It was handy to get the dealer-installed tire lugs loosened.

Ochsenkopf Ox Head Hatchet 600g

Haven't had a chance to use this hatchet yet but looks to be very good quality and is just as described . Service and shipping was very quick and simple. Very pleased with purchase . Only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is that I haven't used the hatchet yet .

Ochsenkopf

Ochsenkopf ("Ox Head" in English) was founded by the Fahlefeld brothers in 1781 in Remscheid, Germany and is known as the oldest axe forge in Germany. All of its edged tools are manufactured of C60 steel, known for its incredible toughness, and ground to a cambered edge, rather than a simple knife edge - all of which guarantees longer tool life. Handles are hand crafted from ash or hickory, and the Rotband system ensures even greater safety and less likelihood of breakage. Today Ochsenkopf is part of the Gedore Group and offers a wide range of axes, hatchets, competition axes, splitting wedges, and other tools and accessories for the timber or forestry professional or the casual user who appreciates using the finest tools.
