Ballistol can be used to lubricate, penetrate, clean, protect, and preserve tools, firearms, leather, knives, marine equipment, fishing gear, locks, wood, metal, rubber, and so much more.
Ballistol is an outstanding penetrating oil, creeps into the finest cracks, and loosens nuts and bolts. It can also be used as a cutting/boring oil.
One of the most astonishing features of Ballistol is its versatility. There are other products on the market, but none have the same wide range of applications and capabilities as Ballistol.
At the turn of the 20th century, the German Imperial Army began looking for a multipurpose oil that could be used to clean and maintain the metallic parts of a rifle, while also protecting its wooden stock and a soldieråä's leather gear. To develop this oil, the Army contracted with Friedrich Klever and his son Dr. Helmut Klever, a professor of chemistry at the Technical University of Karlsruhe. In 1904, Dr. Helmut Klever succeeded in producing the special compound, which he named "Ballistol" (from the words "ballistic" and "oleum", the Latin word for "oil"). It soon became obvious that this new "ballistic oil" had truly amazing capabilities, and in 1905 the Imperial Army tested and adopted Ballistol, which stayed in use until 1945. By then, however, word had spread and within a decade, hunters, boaters, hikers, and outdoorsmen in Germany, Austria and Switzerland had converted to using this new "miracle oil."
Ballistol is biodegradable, and neither its use nor its disposal will pollute our air or water. Its natural decomposition will not produce byproducts that are harmful to the environment. The aerosol propellant is a propane/butane blend that does not contain CFCs. In addition, Ballistol is non-carcinogenic and skin safe.

First of all, I love this stuff and I use it on all my guns and other things too, but the two cans that I received were so beat up and dented. This product works great for cleaning off tools when done using. It provides lubricant and rust prevention. I use it on all the threads for clamps, wipe of pliers and sockets and use on wood handles for garden tools. It also removes rust and dirt. Great product a little unusual smell though.

Excellent product for sharpening stones of any type and general sharpening by any means. Also great for dressing cast iron kitchen utensils.
When you need a non petroleum based lubricant this is a GoTo.
First time using this product. It has the unusual smell that people describe. It is not offensive though. Worked really well on some tools with light rust and my Benchmade knives. Worked great as a preventative on my hand tools, i.e Wera, Knipex, NWS. Need to put in a smaller squeeze bottle and it will be great. Keep on my tool board for constant use.
This stuff works for anything!(almost) it even makes old fishing reels work better!
This stuff will last you a long time as a little goes a long way. Not the best smelling stuff in the world though.
I have use this in a little oil dropper to clean and lubricate hundreds of tools, and it's as if I haven't even made a dent in the bottle. The screw-on cap was broken when it arrived, but thankfully there's another plastic pull tab that needs to be removed to open, plus KC Tool thought ahead and shipped this in a sealed plastic bag.
Got this as a tool lubricant, but have ended up using it for all kinds of things. I don't understand how it can work so well while being skin safe and not terrible for you, but whatever it is, it works

You made an investment in yourself and your work with the tools you bought, take care of them! I use this on all my hand tools and it works great. Treat your tools good and they will treat you good, get some of this stuff, you need it!
A useful and versatile product. I am very pleased with it.
Be sure to use in a well ventilated area as the oil has a strong pungent smell almost like mineral spirits. Oil lubricates and protects well. A little Dab will do ya! This stuff spreads over metal like you wouldn't Believe! One drop. Rubber is a different story.
